She asked me about my life, how work was going (OK, but difficult). How were my relationships going? No girlfriend in quite a while. Were there any money problems? Not too bad, but I worried that the month was too long for the money each month. We also talked about my diet, which was not, at the time, great, and it showed both in my weight and the way I looked.

Depression Is Caused By Too Much Of Something – But What?

The doctor explained to me that in most people, depression, and anxiety were the inevitable consequence of too much stress for too long. What I was suffering from was mild depression with anxiety caused by too much of the bad stress.

She gave me two choices and an instruction!

  • Start taking anti-depressants - and carry on with life as before.
  • Improve my diet – and change how I was living.

Her suggestion was to try the second option and only if that didn’t work to go back to talk about the anti-depressants.

I was going to treat my depression by reducing the stresses on my body from poor nutrition and from the way I was living. I had nothing to lose, and I didn’t want to be taking anti-depressants!
